Ray Langton has been performing and singing at folk clubs and in concerts for over 30 years. Originally based in Sussex Ray was on the committee of the New Sussex Folk Club at the age of 15 and performed regularly from then on in folk clubs along the South coast. For several years he was a resident singer at the Merrie England Folk Club in Eastbourne before moving to Shropshire where he leads the ceildih band 'The Cuckoo Ale Band' and performs and sings as a solo artist.
On his CD 'For Curiosity' he is joined by Brian Bell on Bass (Whapweasel) Mike Coleman on Cittern & Guitar (Whapweasel) Hannah Edmonds on Cello (Ruth Notman Trio) Howard Mills on clarinet, Danny Hughes on Electric Guitar, Derek Harrison on piano Greg Smallbone on percussion (The Cuckoo Ale Band) and Ich Mowatt on drums, bass and guitar. The CD features music and songs written by Ray and was recorded at Sounding Post Studios in Nottingham by Ich Mowatt. The project was managed by Mrs Casey Music. A measure of the esteem that other musians have for Ray was Brian Bell's response when approached to perform on the CD. Brian's response was simply: "I'd be honoured to".
Ray has also been involved in producing Children's Festivals and providing workshops at Sidmouth International Festival, Towersey Festival, Loughborough Festival, Oxford Folk Festival, Beverley Folk Festival, Dartmoor Folk Festival and Whitby Folk Week.
Ray regularly works in schools leading sessions in Morris Dance, traditional English Longsword Dance, Mini Melodeons, Mural Painting and Crafts. He is the subject of a recent enhanced CRB disclosure through ACE and Shropshire LA Ray provides a multi media show suitable for schools and small venues which includes songs, story, computer projection titled 'Songs and Music of Traveling People'. At the end of the show the audience have the opportunity to play a Mini Melodeon.
